Visit the Dune du Pilat from the campsite
The majestic Dune du Pilat dominates the landscape, a colossal 3 km-long dune stretching between the Côte d'Argent and the Landes forest. It is 600 meters wide and 110 meters high. Our Slow Village campsite remains one of the best places to explore the surrounding attractions, such as pristine beaches and other tourist sites, just a short stroll away!
Located in France, Europe's highest dune is today one of the most popular natural attractions. It's a must-see destination that rivals Mont-Saint-Michel and has been added to the official list of Grands Sites de France. All year round, visitors can explore this breathtaking landscape free of charge and enjoy the panoramic views. Although there are numerous cycle paths to the Dune du Pilat, if you decide to go by car, parking is not free. You can, however, park along the road and drive through the forest to begin your ascent. But if you decide to go this way, forget the stairs to help you up!
In addition to its emblematic history and impressive size, the Dune du Pilat captivates visitors with its majestic panorama. Near the Atlantic Ocean, you'll find the Arcachon Basin, Lac de Cazaux, the Banc d'Arguin and countless kilometers of sandy beaches. If you look in another direction, you'll discover the lush cover of the Landes forest. A spectacular sight not to be missed!
After your photo shoot, why not take a stroll down the dune with your friends or children? You could even take part in an unforgettable paragliding experience from the top of the dune! Afterwards, you can buy postcards and souvenirs in the stores at the foot of this colossal sand mountain, before stopping for a refreshing drink on the way back to camp.
And after climbing to the top of the Dune du Pyla to admire the view, head to La Teste de Buch, Perreire or Cap Ferret for oysters or a glass of wine!
