Biscarrosse in a nutshell

Biscarrosse, the historic capital of hydra-aviation, is located on the Landes coast, between the Gironde town of La Teste-de-Buch to the north and Gastes to the south.
The largest commune in the Landes in terms of surface area, Biscarrosse includes part of the two emblematic lakes of the northern Landes: the Etang de Cazaux et de Sanguinet to the north and the Etang de Parentis to the south.
Largely covered by pine forest, Biscarrosse's territory is divided into three distinct areas:

  • Biscarrosse-Bourg between the two lakes, above the hydrobase and behind the Petit étang de Biscarrosse
  • Biscarrosse-Plage on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, almost 10 kilometers from town
  • Biscarrosse-Lac on the banks of theCazaux and Sanguinet lakes, with the central beach, Navarrosse harbor, golf course, Aquapark and Maguide harbor.

Map of Biscarrosse

Biscarrosse's territory is vast. It comprises three distinct identities, with the resort of Biscarrosse-Plagethe village of Biscarrosse-bourg, and the leisure area of Biscarrosse-Lac.

On the town side, Biscarrosse appears to be a typical Landes village, very close to Parentis-en-Born. The village is closer to the Lac de Parentis: the body of water housing the Biscarrosse hydrobase, which marked the history of airmail and Latécoère seaplanes. This is where you'll find the hydroplane museum. Between the two villages, on the eastern shores of the lake, lies the Biscarrosse-Parentis aerodrome, the starting point for aerial excursions over the Great Lakes and as far as the Arcachon Basin. Between the two lakes, to the west of the village, lies the Petit étang de Biscarrosse, a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. The village of Biscarrosse is linked by the inland Landes road network, making it easy to reach Sanguinet to the north, and the villages of the Pays de Born to the south: Parentis, Sainte-Eulalie and Saint-Paul-en-Born at Lac d'Aureilhan and Saint-Julien-en-Born further south.

Biscarrosse-Lac lies to the north of the village, on the shores of Lac de Cazaux and Lac de Sanguinet: water sports and leisure activities are available from the southern tip of the lake, a few kilometers from the village, to the western shore of the lake, a few kilometers from the ocean resort. At the southern tip, on either side of the canal du littoral des Landes, are the port of Navarrosse, home to the Compagnie des Lacs shuttle service, and the central beach of Biscarrosse-Lac. The Route des Lacs, which climbs up to the western shore, leads to the Biscarrosse yacht club and diving club. Nearby is the golf course. Above the golf course is the Aquapark, a set of floating inflatables, as well as the nautical base, the port and the Maguide beach.

Finally, head less than 5 kilometers west to reach the seaside resort of Biscarrosse on the ocean. Behind the resort is theBisc'Aventure tree-climbing course. At the heart of the resort is the tourist office. Along the Biscarrosse beach you'll find surf schools, a casino and seafront restaurants. The road network links Biscarrosse-bourg to the east, the Dune du Pilat and Arcachon to the north.
