The Filature de Belvès showcases traditional textile techniques and arts and crafts. A short history of the Filature de Belvès

Founded in the 19th century, the Filature de Belvèsa wool interpretation center in the heart of Périgord Noir, has played a central role in the Dordogne economy, transforming raw wool into finished products. Initially, the predominant craft techniques were based on hand carding and spinningThis enabled the spinning mill to produce wool of exceptional quality.

Over the years, the Filature de laine de Belvès has adapted to technological innovations, introducing advanced machinery while retaining a deep respect for craftsmanship. This fusion of old and new has helped to enhance the spinning mill's heritage and strengthen its economic role in the Pays de Belvès.

Today's event, Filature de Belvès remains a key player in the region and embodies the traditions of the Périgord Noir.

Would you like to immerse yourself in the textile crafts of the Périgord Noir ? Book a guided tour of the Filature de laine de Belvès. Let's take a plunge into the transformation of raw wool!

These tours, which last 1h30 on average, provide information on the wool transformation process and reveal the historic role of the spinning mill in our industrial heritage. Throughout your visit, you'll be accompanied by an expert expert guide who will take you through every stage of the process, from carding to the finished product. You'll see carding and spinning demonstrationsdemonstrations, highlighting traditional techniques. You'll also discover unique creations from traditional spinning techniques (scarves, berets, handmade accessories...), to be found in the boutique of la Filature de Belvès.

Visit events all year round

In addition to guided tours, Filature de Belvès organizes introductory workshops as well as workshops in weaving, knitting, sewing, crochet and patchwork. During these convivial workshops, you'll learn the different methods and be able to take your creations home with you. Every year, the European Heritage Days are an opportunity to showcase the arts and crafts that the Filature de Belvès strives to preserve.

But that's not all: the spinning mill has created a game area in the heart of its factory. A worker has tampered with a machine, and the pattern on the socks is not the one chosen... Come and solve the riddle with friends or family. An educational fun way way to combine industrial heritage and entertainment!

Filature de Belvès practical information

La Filature de Belvès is open all year round. Visits vary according to the season. In July and August, the factory is open every day from 10am to 7pm (no reservations required) for tours and store. During the off-peak months, tours are only available in two time slots (2.30pm and 4pm) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the store is open Monday to Friday from 2pm to 6pm.

While the store is open to the public, tours are priced at 9,80€ for an adult and 6,80€ for children (free under 6). Group rates are available.

La Filature de Belvèslocated at Fongauffier, Monplaisant, is 11 km from our Slow Village Séveilles open-air hotel, and 16 km from our Slow Village Saint-Cybranet open-air hotel. Free parking is available for visitors.
