The exotic garden at La Roque-Gageac

La Roque-Gageac is a magnificent little village nestled between the cliff, which acts as a natural solarium , and the Dordogne river, with south-west exposure. These 3 ingredients combine to give the village a micro-climate where a special gentleness reigns. At night, the rocks restore the heat stored during the day, the well-drained soil prevents excess humidity and the river below regulates humidity. All these elements have made it possible to create an exotic garden.

The exotic garden was the brainchild of plant enthusiast and travel lover Gérard Dorin, who took advantage of the cliff's natural solarium to plant lush Mediterranean and tropical vegetation. Palm, olive, banana, bougainvillea, orange, pomegranate, lemon and oleander trees can all be found here. Depending on the season, you'll be dazzled by a veritable explosion of shimmering colors, and this visit is a real treat for any nature-loving walker.

Since 2014, Gérard Dorin has passed away, but the garden continues to exist thanks, in large part, to the work of theassociation des jardins de La Roque-Gageac. Volunteers from this association work year-round to maintain the gardens, prune shrubs, mow the lawn and repair any damage that may be discovered. Thanks to this meticulous, delicate and generally time-consuming work, this association of enthusiasts is keen to ensure that Gérard Dorin's work lives on. Especially since the exotic garden is such a success.
