Markets in and around Angers

Angers city center markets

Visit markets in downtown Angers are a veritable microcosm of the city, brimming with life and color. They reflect the city's history and cultural richness, while offering an abundance of quality local produce all year round.

A must: the "Grand Marché

Every Saturday morningsEvery Saturday morning, a large number of Angevins gather at the Place Leclerc market, nicknamed "Grand Marché" by regulars. Located in the heart of downtown, between the town hall, the law courts and the convention center, the Grand Marché is the most complete in terms of exhibitors. Organic and sustainable market gardeners, as well as retailers of conventionally grown fruit and vegetables, can be found side by side. You'll also find fish, flowers, wine, spices, clothes and all sorts of local produce from the Anjou region. And if you push on to Place Imbach, bargain-hunters will find a whole host of second-hand goods.

The many markets in Angers' neighborhoods

Le La Fayette market is another of Angers' landmarks. Located not far from the train station, this market, though smaller, is no less comprehensive. You'll discover a multitude of top-of-the-range products, and the producers are well known to the locals. It's even common to see Angers chefs shopping here for their favorite suppliers! Whether it's organic fruit juices, dried flowers, bulk goods or wool socks and tights, this market has its fair share of unique stalls. On Wednesday lunchtimes, many visitors take advantage of their lunch break to savor the delights of the on-site food trucks, which offer a variety of dishes, from crepes to Asian and Armenian fare.

But Angers city center is also packed with other markets in various locations. For example, the place Molièrenear the river Maine, hosts a small every Saturday morning.. This friendly market, less crowded than the larger ones, features a variety of stalls, including two market gardeners, a fruit seller, a butcher, a cheese maker, a fishmonger and a popular crêpe seller. With its view over the verdant Coeur de Maine esplanade and the river nearby, this market is particularly attractive. For those who like to make the most of long Saturday mornings, the pe petit marché de la rue Saint-Julien on Friday evenings could be an excellent alternative!

The week in Angers is punctuated by lively neighborhood markets, such as the Doutre market on Thursday mornings at Place du Docteur Bichon and the Doute Saint-Jacques marketon Saturday mornings in Place Grégoire Bordillon, and the Ney Chalouère marketmarket on Place Ney on Tuesday mornings and the Belle-Beille market on Fridays. The week ends in style with the Monplaisir market on Sunday mornings. Nicknamed "Marrakech", this market transports visitors elsewhere with its spicy fragrances, noisy vendors and stalls full of exotic produce. A great way to round off the week.

Markets around Angers

On Thursday, the direction to take is Brissac-Quincé. The program includes a market, a visit to the eponymous château and a tour of the Aubance vineyards. Near Angers, on the banks of the Loire River, the markets of Bouchemaine and Savennières are ideal for a leisurely Sunday morning stroll. In Savennières, you can buy oysters and a local white wine to enjoy on the spot, before visiting the nearby Ile de Béhuard. For cycling enthusiasts, the Bouchemaine market is within easy reach of Angers by a short pedal along the Loire à vélo circuit, allowing you to combine relaxation and discovery.
