Biscarrosse and its network of cycle paths

Biscarrosse is an ideal destination if you like to get around by bike during your vacations, as the Vélodyssée runs right through the area between the lake and the ocean.
All the villages surrounding the Grands Lacs are linked by a network of cycle paths.
Cycle around one of the lakes, to the beach on the ocean side and to the market in Biscarrosse-bourg, or simply stroll through the pine forest: in Biscarrosse, everything can be done on a mountain bike.
There are several bike rental outlets in the area, both at the resort and in the town, as well as on the shores of Lac de Cazaux and Lac de Sanguinet.
You can rent road bikes, mountain bikes and electric bikes, as well as carriages and followers for children.

Everything you need to know about Biscarrosse's cycle paths

Renowned for its cycling, the Landes region, and especially the Grands Lacs area around Biscarrosse, favors soft modes of transport.

The Vélodyssée, Europe's longest cycle route, runs along the Atlantic coast from northern Brittany to the Franco-Spanish border: its route crosses the Biscarrosse area and links Arcachon to the north, Parentis to the east of the hydrobase, then the other villages of the Pays de Born, towards the Landes to the south.
Other cycle paths have been laid out in Biscarrosse and around the lakes:

• Along the Etang de Cazaux, from Biscarrosse to Sanguinet
• Or to Parentis-en-Born and from Parentis to Ychoux

Cycling itinerary: our favorites

TheLa Vélodyssée itinerary from Biscarrosse to Arcachon: 25 kilometers of cycle paths along the coast on forest tracks, passing the beaches of La Salie, La Lagune and Petit-Nice.
The highlight of the cycle tour is a stop at the Dune du Pilat, Europe's highest dune at 110 meters high and still in constant motion.
The outward journey will take you less than two hours, so you can ideally plan to do this tour over a day, to enjoy a stop at the Pilat Dune as well as a visit to Arcachon and the basin's oyster ports on your arrival.

Tips for safe riding

For your safety and well-being:

• Wear appropriate footwear
• Choose an ergonomic, compact backpack
• Take water with you, and remember to drink about 50 cl every half-hour.
• Take some snacks with you too
• Protect your head with a hat and your eyes with sunglasses.
• Remember to apply sunscreen regularly
• Equip yourself with a compass or a charged GPS phone
• Don't forget a small first-aid kit
