The Sainte-Marie circuit
This walk along the Douaniers trail starts at the Château de Pornicwhich dominates the town and was once the home of Gilles de Rais. As you take your first steps, you'll be seduced by the Jardin de Retzbefore crossing the château's terrace, which offers a magnificent view of the harbour.
The trail then leads you to a historical treasure: the Tumulus des Mousseuxa listed megalithic site. After skirting the Pornic golf courseyou'll reach Sainte-Marie, where you'll find the church containing the tombstone of a crusader and the statue of Our Lady of the Tabernacle.
Continue your walk to Porteau creekand then Montbeau beachbefore joining the Boulevard de l'Océan, which takes you back to the Marina. The last section of the path, along the corniche, offers an exceptional panorama of the Belle Époque villasa testament to Pornic's elegant past.
The Pêcheries circuit
This coastal circuit of the sentier des Douaniers de Pornic is also a must. The starting point is at the Gourmalon gardena haven of greenery overlooking the Ria botanical park. Follow the coastal path to the former site of the Casino de la Source, now replaced by the thalassotherapy center.
Before long, you'll be skirting stilt fisheriesthat dot the coast and bear witness to a maritime tradition that's still very much alive. The trail then takes you on a tour of an even more ancient heritage: the Prédaire and Joselière dolmensLoire-Atlantique's prehistoric remains nestled in a unique natural setting.
As you continue along this part of the sentier des Douaniersyou will reach the Boutinardière beachbefore stopping off at the charming villages of villages of La Joselière and La Birochèrewith their peaceful lanes and typical fishermen's houses. Finally, an ascent to the chemin de la Corderie will guarantee you one last grandiose spectacle: the Pornic ria which stretches as far as the eye can see.
