Between the Loire and Maine rivers, it offers an infinite variety of activities, from cultural visits to nature walks, water sports and gastronomic discoveries. Are you about to book a camping holiday in Angers?
To make sure you don't miss out on any of the things to do in and around Angers, be sure to visit the town's tourist office at the start of your stay: located next to the château, it will give you the chance to admire the royal fortress and the gardens laid out in its moat.
Plan to visit the town during the week, to take advantage of the stores and the peace and quiet.
Don't forget to include an evening at a local restaurant in your itinerary, and book in advance.
Ranked first among France's green cities, the capital of Anjou offers a perfect balance of city and nature: its urban area has the largest planted surface area (in m2) of any city in France, with parks, gardens and natural areas right in the heart of the city, such as Parc de Balzac, where cows graze just opposite the castle and medieval center.
With 100 m² of green space per inhabitant, Angers, the second largest city in the Pays-de-la-Loire region, really stands out. A green city, Angers is also eco-responsible: no chemicals are used in the city's parks and gardens.
Numerous projects continue to flourish, such as the greening of sidewalks and free picking from fruit trees.
So it's only natural that Angers should also be home to the world's first plant-themed theme park: Terra Botanica.
The historic center of Angers is mainly located on the left bank of the Maine, to the east.
Here you can admire medieval half-timbered houses, including the famous Maison d'Adam, as well as mansions built between the Renaissance and the 19th century. On the banks of the Maine River, you'll find the château with its imposing fortified towers.
